As the Covid 19 pandemic continues to ravage on, the Republic of Ghana has introduced new Covid entry requirements for all travelers entering into the country, to help curb the spread of the disease. All these New Covid-19 requirement are enrolled and regulated by the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service and other governmental agencies such as the Aviation Regulatory Agencies.
As the gateway to the Republic of Ghana taken by travelers is only open by air, water and land the boarders still remain close to all non-essential travelers or movement.
All individuals are required to undergo a pre-departure Covid-19 test, which should be within 72hrs before departure of origin.
Along with an approved Health Declaration Form, every visitor must have a negative test report for the Covid-19 PCR test. It is important to perform this test within 72 hours of your travel date. Also, you must constantly wear a face mask during the flight and throughout your moment and communication with other people.
It is also recommended to have a hard copy proof of this negative Polymerize Chain Reaction (PCR) COVID-19 test result. Visit www.africacdc.org/trusted-travel for a certified list of providers. You should not use the NHS testing service to get a test to facilitate your travel to another country. Individual would also be required to complete additional Health Declaration Forms on arrival.
In accordance to the recent rule about Ghana travel requirement during Covid-19 passed by the Ghanaian government and the Ministry of Health, every traveler entering Ghana during Covid-19 era must provide their detailed information including the health status in a form available online at www.ghs-hdf.org. This form is a Health Declaration Form that allows you to enter the country easily.
Is There Any Further Covid-19 Test on Arrival?
Travelers are required to take a mandatory Covid-19 test at Kotoka International Airport. The test is an Antigen Fluorescent Immunoassay test, which will be conducted before baggage is collected at a cost of $50 USD for Ghanaians and ECOWAS citizens and $150 USD for other travelers. Payment of this test must be made online prior to boarding. Children under the age of five are exempted.
What If I am Tested Positive for Covid-19?
Anyone testing positive upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, will immediately be transferred to hospital for further assessment. Non-resident travelers are required to isolate in a government health facility and must do so at their own cost. Whiles for Ghanaians the cost will be covered by the state.
What If I am Already Vaccinated?
Travelers are required to hold proof of full vaccination, addition to a 72hours pre-departure (PCR) Covid-19 negative test result.
Transiting Ghana
Transit passengers, except where they will remain in the airport throughout or those who were diverted to Accra for an emergency, will also be subject to mandatory Covid-19 testing as outlined above.
Travel Insurance
The Government of Ghana also advise that all arrivals should have valid insurance. It is more important than ever to get travel insurance and check it provides sufficient cover.
