Local airlines in Ghana have grown rapidly over the past few years. As our cities develop, the need for local flights is increasing. Ghana now has official airports in Accra, Kumasi, Paga, Sekondi Takoradi, Ho, Obuasi, Sunyani, Tamale, Wa and Yendi. Of these airports, only Kotoka International Airport in Accra has the capacity to receive international flights. However, all other airports are suitable for domestic flights.
Since flights are the safest way to travel, we thought it would be helpful to provide this list of functional domestic airlines in Ghana from December 2020. Ghana currently has three functional domestic carriers for passenger flights.
Passion Air
Passion Air is a new airline that offers domestic flights to Ghana at very affordable prices. They have a fleet of Bombardier Q400s. These are some of the safest aircraft suitable for domestic flights. Passion Air currently flies to Accra, Kumasi, Tamale and Sekondi-Takoradi about 5 times a day. They have an app and website where you can book domestic flights to Ghana. Passion Air promises to be the airline that adds value to domestic air travel in Ghana.
Africa World Airlines
Africa World Airlines (AWA) was one of the first airlines to reach Ghana’s domestic aviation space. According to their website, they currently have a fleet of 8 aircraft, 381 employees and fly to ten destinations in Ghana. They have flown over 2 million passengers and won best airline of the year in 2019. Africa World Airlines flies between Accra, Kumasi, Tamale, Takoradi and Wa, so whenever you need to fly to one of these cities, you can always book a flight. through their website.
Gian Air
Gian Air is a relatively new airline with a modern fleet of BAe Jetstream 32EP aircraft. The twin-turbo propellers pack around 2,100 horsepower and a top speed of 430 km/h. This aircraft can carry up to 18 passengers and 1 crew. This makes for a comfortable flight to your destination. Due to the size of the aircraft, you can easily charter flights for any personal engagement.
Non-Passenger Airlines
There are other non-passenger air services such as helicopter charter with Volta River Aviation. Other airlines such as Air Ghana exclusively handle cargo and not human passengers.
Previously there were other airlines such as Starbow, Antrak and Aerogem which unfortunately are no longer operating. We hope this list of domestic airlines in Ghana will help you plan your flights within Ghana.
